Just when you think you are running out of creative inspiration..or even tolerance for this winter weather, take another look! You’ll be surprised at what you may find in your own backyard.
DIY’s are always fun. For one, they make you feel so crafty and talented, and two you are saving money while having fun doing it! It’s so easy to get caught up on Pinterest (GUILTY!) gazing at all the amazing things you wish you could fill your apartments with (believe me it’s addiction) but there is no need to develop a serious relationship with your virtual scrapbooks when you could start making it happen for yourself!
Take advantage of the winter treasures and get your hands a little dirty with this Birch Tree Candle DIY.
WHAT YOU NEED:
– a forest
– a good eye for wood
– drill
– tea candles
– knife
– Saw
– wood sealer
Head out into the woods and find yourself some fineeee pieces of tree! You may have to scout a bit for fallen trees or head to a park where they may have already cut some down.
(Pssstt, stuck in the city? Head to a Garden Green House and see what they have to offer!)
Once you have found your pile, pick the pieces you want! Play around with height, shape, and colour so that they can be arranged in multiple ways no matter where you put them!
Now I’m not gonna lie, I am no woodsman, or carpenter myself so ask a father, friend, or boyfriend if you are feeling a bit uneasy. Cut the wood into pieces based on the size you want and how you are going to stand them up. Draw an outline of the candles on the wood before using a drill to slowly rotate into the wood, creating a hole.
P.S Don’t worry about it being perfect, it has that rustic look anyways!
Next shimmy in the tea lights by removing their base. You can use a knife to smooth over any round edges on the candles so that they match the holes in the wood.
NOW- resist the urge to light them until you get a sealant at your local hard wear store that will coat the wood and prevent it from going up in flames! You wouldn’t want all your hard work to go to waste would you?
Lastly, sit back and relax, cause your work here is done. Wouldn’t a little candle light be perfect for tonight?
